I know this question comes up a lot. Tinkered with the Toms Budget and Enthusiast build
A bit more expensive than I thought but will last. Had some outside elp unless way off. Informed comments appreciated. Thanks!

Going for a system that won't get a 'hyperlink transport error' like my current MSI 880 with the AMD Phenom2 with some MMO games online.
MBD may go with the Z97...
MIGHT pull my EVGA 2 GB GDD5 PCI Express 3 GeForce GTX 650Ti from my current system and put it in and save the bucks from the video card listed below.... unless I get feedback on it is too slow or cheap for the system build.
Yes, I want the SSD that size.

First, why win7? Second, switch the 4670K & Z87 to 4690K & Z97. Get a cheaper SSD, like the MX 100 or a 840 EVO (there's no reason you need the newest 3D NAND unless you're doing extremely IO intensive) the 750 ti is pretty slow, especially since you have an i5. Also, get a HDD

lol a 1300$ with a 100$ gpu no no. get a z97 mobo for better overclocks and upgrading capabilities so you can save bucks upgrading and not upgrading the mobo. you could get a evga 850w for 95(the G2 kind the good kind). the r9 290 should be in here and you only need 8gb for gaming nothing more.

re: Win 7 - have been reading lots of garbage about win8.1 and the subsequent non-working updates. Am all ears if you think it's better.
re:will bump up to 4690K and Z97
re: SSSD - , mmm, okay, save a bit with the 840 EVO, and no donit have that intensive IO need. Never had an SD and Samsung came up with a 10 yr warranty on the 850, so was going to bite and let it blow my socks off.
re: 750Ti... guess that answers using the current 650Ti in the new system.
suggestions on the video card without going nuts? Asus GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 for another ~$100.00 ?
Only have about 90 GB on the current HD, figured a 250GB would be plenty?
Use another HD for ?

A 1 TB HDD would only cost around 50, so there's no real reason not to get one.

Something like this, the SSD is cheaper, but can you notice the performance difference between a 5 and 7 second boot time?

OEM 64 bit windows 8, when you want to upgrade your MB, you'd have to buy a newer windows, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

LOL ! Am in PCPArtPicker so this wont be too bad. Spent the last 8 hours looking up and researching the list I had - but am open to suggestion like I said, so thank you.

Questioning the Asrock MB. Heard they have a few DOAs. Will take another look though. Looks like a lot of high ratings as well as doa's.

ie, -"The Cooler Master CPU cooler fan blocked my RAM port closest to the CPU. If I choose to add RAM later, I will have to replace the cooler, or move the fan up about 1cm.
-My EVGA GTX 780 Ti video card didn't match up exactly with the mounting screw hole on the case. Not sure if this was Fatal1ty's fault or the Thor V2 Case's fault, so not going to place blame, just identifying it. A little maneuvering and I was able to get it work, but having that constant tension on it makes me nervous."

Ripjaws memory new to me, but highly rated, again the problem with the Cooler Master EVO near the ram....possible problem, but will substitute.

The HDD plus the SSD will bump the DVD to E. Hope it wont be a problem with other software. Do I really need a 1TB HD with a 256 SSD?

Video card - ouch....mmmmm

Case is kick a$$ - watched the video, super for the price!

Power supply and op sys ok!

so only question in the MB and the cooler/ram clearance. HDD ?

Low profile ram like the corsair LP should get rid of the clearance problem. I would look more into it though.

You dont necessarily need an HDD but a 250gb drive will fill up fast when you start downloading games so i would recommend getting the HDD. Just download the OS and some start up programs to your ssd and use the hdd for storage.

MS didnt even make the August update work...

Thank you. Will mull the vid card,. the rest, 'cept for the cooler clearance - all looks great. won't know on the clearnace until I get it all in house.

That all looks good, and 'kunthakenthe said...' looks true as well.
Might as well get the HDD with the system. Will probably never fill 1/4 of the TB, so lots of room for the swapfile...

Asrock Z97 as mentioned
low profile Corsair 'blue' LP to fit in the cooler
EVGA 850 G2 PSU - it is modular but not in picker so have to order separately.
Samsung 840 EVO
Radeon (ouch...)
gonna chance the 8.1 and do a clean install.... hate redoing all my programs.
Have several student only MS products I already paid for, ie, Office and some specialty programs.
So considering staying with W7 and doing a clone to the SSD and then a 'sysprep' and move it into the new system....

Read up to the fourth paragraph. It wasn't just Windows 8 and 8.1 it was just a bad update and only effected a certain group of users. (My system was not effected nor were any systems I have used nearby friends/family.)

Windows 8.1 is probably the most stable OS I have used to date and it has some nice features after you get it a proper start menu (Examples include the ability to pause file transfers, the improved task manager, integration of one drive if you use it, and the faster boot time). I use Start8 and I recommend using either that or one of it's alternatives. These UI mod applications cost anywhere from free to ~$5.

Thank you very much. Did not know that. Guess too much generalizations on W8.1, really wanted that start button like W7, and a W7 looking desktop.
Took a college course that touted W8 a year ago, and hated the layout and organization.
Looked up the Stardock Start8. Looks pretty nice. Leaning now towards W8.1
