Yipes! New Build Won't Post!!

Hiya guys.

Been building/toying with my new build for hours now. It just will not start!

Asus Prime 270 - P mobo

The power is on, as LEDs on the mobo light up, but nothing else. No fans, not the PSU fan or anything.

I suspected it may be the power on switch wasn't working/attached correctly.
Tried the screwdriver on the terminals thing, no response.
Have tried the paper clip in the PSU test, PSU is ok.

So I have stripped it down to nothing. Just the PSU connected to the mobo (two leads, CPU and longer mobo one), with just the CPU and Fan (i5 7600k and Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo) connected.

No response, no fans, tried screwdriver thing. Just LEDs on the mobo.

What is left to do?

Reseat the CPU etc?

Would be handy if I had a beep code from the mobo, I don't seem to have a speaker, any avenues there?

What exact power supply using?

Thermaltake Toughpower 750W (see pic, i keep my spare wires etc in the box). It must be 8 years old so I kinda suspect it, but it passes the paper clip test.

Try testing the board outside the case, for ruling out a short.
If still the same, try testing different power supply, if possible.

OK, good call, thanks. Won't be able to test with another PSU until tomorrow. Would acquiring a mobo speaker be worth it, i'd usually diagnose from the beep codes but it has been a while since that.

Since fans not spinning, CPU/board not powered... I suppose no beeps.

Have tried with mobo (just CPU and fan installed) outside of the case. Exactly the same, leds, nothing more.

Tried connecting the dvd drive to power to see if it would open tray. It did not.

Wanted to swap out the CPU power lead (8 pin, 12v) to see if that had failed, but I have no other to swap with. However, with no CPU power lead at all, the mobo responds the same, LEDs, nothing else.

I'm praying this isn't a fried (brand new) mobo. I will ask the local shop nicely if they would test with one of their PSUs before I shell out £100 on a new PSU. But I am hoping it is a (OLD!) PSU fail.

It looks like a dead board, since the paperclip test passed.

Took PSU to local shop, they hooked it up to a reader type thing and pronounced the PSU dead.

I'd rather not shell out £100 on a new PSU but I am kinda relieved.

Any pointers on PSU? I'm thinking a semi modular 700w from a known brand...
