You wouldnt have imagined it but...

I installed Win xp on my celeron 400 laptop, with 128mb of RAM, a 4gb HD and USB 1.1

It used to have 98, but that was so screwed up I just couldnt be arsed anymore

Anyhow, It actually runs fine (takes 2mins to start but apart from that), but when trying to watch video the sound and display is corrupted (black and white and transparent coloured bits), while in 98 it was fine.

The video card is a trident 9525, while the laptop is a satellite 4090xcdt

Anyone have any suggestions over how to improve video playback performance?

Im using VLC player.

Ta!

hi.
i have installed once in one of the same cpu xp pro.
since you are using vlc player it needs different codes to play right the media.
this one is not a problem from your display or resolution but it is from player.
i also get sometimes these kind of problems especialy with *****.mkv files
updates player codes.
if that does not work use different player.

ah yes, these drivers seem impossible to find!

Also, the card only has 2mb video ram, which is rubbish huh! All the same, the mystery is that it worked fine for divx under 98, but doesnt work at all in xp!
