I am getting this error message in Event Viewer every time I boot my computer - Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0xE03F497D2563. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

It manifests itself by delaying my connection to the network and the internet. It usually takes about 45 seconds for me to get a clear icon; it starts out with the spinning blue circle, followed by the red X, and then the yellow exclamation icon, and then finally I am connected.

My OS is Win7 sp1, all windows updates up to date, including drivers. Connected by cable modem to Comcast and it has been working great until about one month ago when this new issue showed up. I have tried both Google and OpenDNS server settings, no difference.

If you are connected DIRECTLY to your modem, and not to a router, then your DHCP request has to be processed by Comcast. You REALLY should get a router ....

If your connection is wired:
Re-seat all connections.
Check routing of your cable is not parallel to or touching AC power cords or transformers.
Swap out the cable.

If your connection is WiFi switch channels.


You can use a program like Piriform Speccy to see network connection info.

First the 'error/warning' about the DHCP assigning an address is not a problem it has to do with system startup timing where one system is up before another, I have the same entries. As you can see in your post an address is assigned. 192.168.1.146. So I was focusing on your Cat 5 cable routing getting interference from an AC line running parallel or a transformer. If your internet runs fine once connected then that would not be an issue.

Your delay seems more of a congestion issue I am guessing you are on a cable modem like Comcast. Those connections share bandwidth so more the more subscribers the more of an impact.

Those are both interesting ideas. I will try to isolate the Cat 5 cable from any AC line or transformer. As to the 2nd solution, not much I can do about that; any providers other than Comcast are way downhill in terms of quality and service, if you can believe that.

rwinches came the closest to the solution; I did a desktop reinstall of Win 7 and now all is well. Router is fine, but I am looking at the Netgear Nighthawk AC3200 wiht lust in my eyes.
