I can't believe I never noticed that typo before. Of course, now it's going
to be glaringly obvious every time from now on...

Doh! I used to soultrap badies all the time with my custom Geomancer
(based on the Bard's Tale class from the third installment) and didn't
notice it in the thick of combat. There might be a way to edit the
typo in The Elder Scrolls Construction Set..

There is a way, in fact. Open up the CS, then go to
Gameplay->Settings. Select the "menus" tab from the window that pops
up, and find the ID named "sSoultrapSuccess". Its value is the message
that pops up when you successfully trap a soul, and can be modified
from that window.
