Hello everyone!

I am about to start with upgrading my computer, so I wanted to ask you for your advice and opinion. My plan was something like this:

- At this point my current configuration is:

Motherboard: Gigabyte M61PME-S2P / <removed>
CPU : AMD Athlon II X2 215 / <removed>
VGA : Radeon HD 6700 Series / <removed>
HDD: WDC WD50 (SATA) / <removed>

So I was about to do next:

- To buy:
Motherboard: GA-970A-DS3P / <removed>
RAM: DIMM DDR3 4GB 1866MHz Kingston HyperX Fury Black / <removed>

The point is that I would like to change my current motherboard & RAM, with those I wrote up here, and to keep using my current CPU and VGA for some time, until I decide to buy something better. New motherboard supports my current CPU, so I wouldn't have any problems with that, and my VGA is also PCI, so what would work like a charm. One thing, that could make some problems is that new motherboard needs AM3+ for 1866 Mhz DDR3, so does it means, that my HyperX will not work, or it will work @ 1600 Mhz?

My further plan is to upgrade CPU to FX-6300, an extra 4GB stick of RAM and VGA to some decent, too (with new power supply ofc). If I forgot to write something, feel free to tell me.

Thanks for your attention. I’m looking forward to your reply.

Save the money for this, 5-10 times better than your end goal. You will need a new PSU for new components :)

Total: €441.81...

I am about to move to the DDR3, with this motherboard and a new RAM. Is it DDR3 that old already? :) The point is to take new motherboard /w RAM, and to use current CPU and VGA, then in a month or two, I will take FX-6300 and some new decent ATI video card. I just wanted to know, will everything be compatibile as I wrote in a post before.

Thanks

New motherboard (GA-970A-DS3P) and RAM (DDR3 4GB 1866MHz Kingston HyperX) with current CPU (AMD Athlon II X2 215) and VGA (Radeon HD 6700 Series). Will everything be compatibile?

Yes they are. I am just saying FX series is not worth the money... If you tell me your total budget, I can help you build something much better instead of wasting money on it :) No offense, just performance/cost is too low for FX now.

Well, I don't need anything special. Just to play some few old games at highest settings (Smite, HoTs...) I wanted to make some solid platform for some future upgrades (CPU and VGA), so I could get some solid/mid-range (enough for games I wrote) performances. Anyway, thanks for advices about cost/performance and tips about FX CPU's :)

Thanks for your advice, but I just wanted to use my 8-year old Athlon for a month or two, until I don't get something much better then him.

GA-970A-DS3P > DDR3 4GB 1866MHz Kingston HyperX > Athlon II 215 > 6770 1GB > to the FX - 6300 > R9 series or something like > SSD

So I could get at the end

GA-970A-DS3P
DDR3 4GB 1866MHz Kingston HyperX
FX - 6300
R9 Series
SSD

I want to know, is it possible this path of upgrading, I mean, will it be everything compatibile?

However, maybe it's and old motherboard and CPU, but with FX-6300 and new VGA, it will be much, much better then my current config.

Let we say I need around ~90 Euros for GA-970A-DS3P, ~80 Euros for FX-6300, ~70 Euros for 2 x 4 GB of HyperX, and 120 Euros + for some decent VGA. So that would be from ~350 Euros to the 400.

And because it would be between 350 - 400 Euros, I am not able at this point to pay it all at once, so my plan was to start with new Motherboard and CPU, and to keep using my current CPU and VGA, until I would be able to buy new CPU and VGA.
