I am curious about them as I recently purchased ..

This

.. so since I am going to have more interaction with my drives I would like to keep them save, better to spend $5-$15 rather than replace a drive. I am curious how the rubbery (I assume rubber/plastic from the picture) material holds up and what kinds of experiences you guys have had with heat and durability, along with protecting the valuable exposed underbelly of your storage drives.

Thanks in advance!

I have one of those - well, similar, from a different manufacturer. It's great for what it is designed for, but because it is not designed for permanent use, I do not worry about protective sleeves for the bare drives. I'm just really careful.

1 - not in stock but looks fine
2 little overkill more of a replaceable drive solution
3 Looks fine but 4 is cheaper
4 - in stock looks good for temporary protection while out of the antistatic bag.

I got this from coolgear for $31

Limited Edition Pro Series Aluminum Shell Version of this Adapter only $31.99
It does 3.5 & 2.5 IDE's and 3.2 & 2.5 SATA pretty cool devices

For temporarily accessing an external drive I just put the drive ON the antistatic bag it came in. Having your mouse pad under it does not hurt either.
