From recent posts looks like PSUs and HSF cause a lot frustration. So how about some recommendations for those two from you guys who run high-end Athlon-based machines?
Which brands/ratings/possible purchase locations you had the best XPerince with?
Thanks

well I cant speak for HSF's as im watercooled, but the Enermax 465 (430W) psu I recently got is awsome, long wires, plenty of plugs, voltage doesnt drop, and VERY quiet.

I've had a Silverado. It worked fine for my Duron600@933, but didnt cut it with my Athlon 1.4 (>60°). Strange enough, my brother also has one, and he has no problem with his Silverado and Athlon 1.2@1.4 (<50°. Never figured out why, since my case temps are better, and I reseated my HSF more than once..

Either way, I now have a Swiftech with a Papst fan. Im VERY happy with it. makes less noise than my Silverado (yes, even less) thanks to the extremely low noise Pabst fan @1800 rpm (i think). It also cools pretty well, keeping my Athlon 1.4 between 41 and 46°C. It even seems its so effecient it can do WITHOUT fan.. (although at pretty ugly high temps). More info later on..

There is also no fear of clips breaking off, or crushing cores, thanks to the 4 bolt mounting mechanism. Highly recommended and very expensive HSF ;-)

I am considering a swiftech for my next hsf, the thermoengine I gave is not good enough for me anymore. How do you get one with the pabst fan?

PSU: I'm using A1 Electronics 400W I bought few months ago for $50 at http://Newegg.com.

Im thinking about getting one of those volcanoes, how do they work?? I have a tai sol 733092. I don't know how cool it runs the chip but i've had no lockups. I would know but it's on a compaq motherboard. My dad has a cooler master don't know what model, one of the cheap ones and it runs his 1.1ghz athlon at 50*C which i wouldn't want but it's also very quiet.

PSU? enermax 550W thanx!
HSF? swiftech 462A if the only damn supplier here would hurry up and move their buttocks and re-order them! grrrrr

all this jammed into a otherwise crummy omni case :)

I just ordered one through my local webshop (in belgium). The Swiftech comes without fan, and I just ordered a Pabst along with it.
