Hi,

I am looking at buying 1 or possible 2 LCD screens.

This question is mostly to the programmers / developers / webdesigners out there but feel free to comment if you wish.

If you had the choice of the following combinations which
one would you take ?

2 * 19" (1950FP)
1 * 20" (2001FP)
1 * 20" (2005FP)

I am still thinking about getting a dual 20" setup but
it's a rather big chunk of money =/

The dual 19" on the other hand scares me a little because
of the resolution.

Get the 2405fpw instead of Dual 20"ers.

I would go for the 2005fpw since widescreen is the way things are going. Windows Longhorn will be designed for widescreen. The 2005fpw has a better contrast ratio than the 2001fpw and the 2405fpw is better than both.

I've had the 2005fpw and I have the 2405fpw and I recommend both. The 2405fpw is in a completely different league though so if you have the money get it.

Looking at the prices the 2405fpw is pretty much the same as two 20" right now...

I have been reading about the large resolutions and graphic cards not being able to support that... do you happen to know if a 6600GT would be able to support that ?

I know that a 9500Pro AGP and a x800XL PCI-E support these resolutions. By extension I would think that you'll be just fine with a 6600 GT. That's a good card.

I got my 2405fpw for $860 + tax so obviously it's a better deal than 2 20"ers. However if you do choose to go with two monitors note that the bezel is about 3/4 of an inch wide.

Though I have never had the opportunity to own a dual monitor setup, I have had the occasion to use one back when I was a lowly programming undergrad. I tend to leave at least 10 windows open while working, which can cramp screen space fast, even on large monitors. With the dual monitor setup, real estate became less of an issue: I could work in one window maxed on one screen, and leave all my miscellaneous junk on the other, where I could catch it at a glimpse when I needed it without interrupting work. I probably shaved hours off of the projects I was fortunate enough to be able to work on with a dual monitor rig.
 
I would either go for the dual 19" or the single 2405.

Right now I run dual CRT's with a 21" and 19" and I do like the dual displays.

But I would trade em in a minute for teh Dell 2405!

I've used dual monitors back in the day as well. A 19" and 20" CRT. It's nice no doubt. If you're doing graphic work or web design and want all your toolbars on one monitor while your work area is on another, then all power to you. However, with one large monitor you can have it all on one screen unless you somehow find that distracting. With the 2005fpw you can fit 2 webpages side by side. With the 2405fpw you can fit 2 webpages side by side and still have room for toolbars.
