YouTube videos not working

All of a sudden, my phone won't play YouTube videos at 720p without lagging and stuttering a ton. This never used to happen. I used to be able to watch in 1080p without issues and I guess the issue got worse. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

It is a Blu Tank Xtreme Pro. It is the YouTube app, and reinstalling doesn't do anything.

Are you able to connect to other video websites without problems?

Have you also tried to see if the issue persists if watching the video from the chrome browser?
Also playing videos higher than 720p is pointless on that device since its sceen resolution is 720p.
Last, did you change any settings in developer section on the phone?

I have developer options on and sometimes if I uninstall updates and reinstall them it works for 1 or 2 videos and then lags again. It works fine with the YouTube website and YouTube Go (I don't live in India I just have it so I don't have to use my minuscule amount of data for watching videos on the go and I used a VPN to get it), but I like the YouTube app. Also, I thought it might be the crappy Mali-T720 GPU but I wasn't sure. I have force GPU rendering on and that is the only dev option.
