So here is my question about youtube.

A noted electronics repair store out in WA. has been doing repair work for 6 years, recently (2) years ago they started making youtube videos on the work they do.
3 months ago the closed up shop and are not doing repair work anymore, claiming they want to focus on making videos.

How do they make money by just doing the 16min videos?
I don't understand how the monetization works too much, but they don't have any ads popping up like in the games, and they don't offer any kind of service?

If they have any form of decent following, there will be automatic ads served up by the platform. If you pay for YT Premium, you'll never see them. Depending on view count & viewer engagement/click-through rate, the channel can make $x per 1000 views, typically.

Everything scales with popularity, size of the channel, average number of views etc. So we're never going to be able to talk specifics. When it comes to 16min videos though, that sounds about right - engagement, people who watch the entirety of the video, is going to be much higher % for a 16min video that it would be if they were pushing out 60+ min vidoe.s

There's always the possibility that the shop was not making any money, or very little - and had overheads.
If YT is making them more, not necessarily a lot, they may deem it more viable.
