z170-a board here, after a windows update (windows 10 home 64 bit) I can't use my lan controller nor can I reinstall it. it's working on usb wireless no problem though.
I can see the Intel(R) Ethernet Controller I219-V but it has the yellow warning sign and it says it's the most up to date but doesn't work and does not show up in my network connections folder...
Burn a linux distro to a dvd and boot from it.When you boot,DO NOT install anything, just boot in live mode.Once it boots, attempt to connect to the internet via the built in lan card. Also,I would try to conect something else to the wire the plugs into the network card just to exclude the wire.
was working fine last night, got a windows 10 update and boom down and doesn't work. I installed the lan driver directly from asus on their site and I've seen many other reports of people having same issues with z170 boards and windows 10.
Now getting windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attemping to install it. This device cannot start (code 10)
Your mobo may be using a driver the mobo maker has tweaked for their own use, and Win 10 may well be trying to load the base driver for your chip, keep a copy of the mobos version handy and then can uninstall when/if Win trys again and load your good version
thing is the good version is the exact same every time... it's not changing the driver at all, windows 10 is just being really bad and I've heard tons of people with different mobo/ethernet have the exact same problem
I had the same problem when I upgraded to Windows 10. Apparently Windows 10 wreaks havoc on network drivers. Just uninstall and reinstall the latest Intel Network Connections driver, and it seems to fix it (even if reinstalling the exact same version).
problem happens when I turn off with the power button on the pc or when I hit the restart on the pc when I get a crash. once rebooted if I shut down through windows and turn on after a couple of minutes it's back to normal without uninstalling any drivers
