per the title, which of the two motherboards, the gigiabyte or the asus, is your preferred or better?

to pair with a 6600k and 2x8gb ddr4 2400mhz ram.

Thanks all, for the replies. Just a follow up question - I've read about issues with both boards. The gaming 7, audio issues and some sort of issue with the killer network. The hero seems to have a number of diferent issues, I suppose this is typical for any board.

I got a gaming 7
Had no killer networking issues at all

Got issues with auto XMP with GSkill Ripjaws V 3000MHz, setting the profile manually eliminated it

Got some sound issues when using 5.1 sound (sometimes have to.replug the jack, most of the time just have to switch from 5.1 to stereo and back to 5.1, am unsure it's the boards fault and not my sound equipment)
And every once in a while my sound crashes completely (which is extremely uncomfortable as you get a 105bd static noise in your head phones) but only when running a steam game and an origin game at the same time, so I don't think it's the boards fault^^

Love the utility software though

Do you already have the 6600k???

Not yet, why do you ask?

GPU (MSI 1060 6GB £240), Case (Fractal R5 £70), SSD (Samsung 850 Evo 250GB £60), HDD (WD Blue 1TB £40), PSU (Corsair Rmi 750 £80) - already have, no issues with them and got them all at good prices.

Looking for unlocked i5, i7 I believe no gain for gaming for the extra £100 - correct?

Already seen 2x8gb ddr4 2400 ram for £50.

Then the motherboard, mid-upper end and would like to match colour scheme, which is why gaming 7 and hero 8 from original post.

Cautious about kabylake over skylake, it's new, fewer reviews and marginal gains. Then there is no windows 7 with it, which I still use. At least with skylake (cpu+mobo) shouldn't be any suprises and I've seen deals on them all. Ryzen - end of march if I'm correct, but full fat information yet to judge. Rumours/leaks are nice so far and would consider it, but at least two months to wait to get a proper look at all variants (4c, 4c+4t, etc).

As for budget, that would mean the cpu and motherboard, the cpu would be £230/240 for any i5, but seen the 6600k go for around £195, motherboard would be £200, but have the hero 8 discounted to £100/150. Wouldn't get that with kabylake.

Good. Seems like you have already done your research. 😉

Everything seems perfect. I would say, 750w would be way above what you require. Save some money there and increase the RAM to 16gb. You will need it sooner or later.

What's your total budget at this point?
