Z170 or H170

Hi there. I can either pick up a ga-h170 gaming 3 or a low end z170 board. Is any point in getting a z170 over an h170 because I cannot overclock due to locked i3 6100.

Does the z170 have any other pro's?

Depends... are there features on that board that you want versus the H170? If not, go with the cheaper option. The biggest advantage would be overclocking which you can't do. So outside of special features, I don't think you'll get much benefit from the Z170 (hard to say without knowing full system specs).

The H170 is actually the same price.

I would grab the Z170 then, it has more features and "future" proofs your system if you ever get a more powerful CPU that you can OC.

You can still overclock the i3-6100 with the right board, despite the rampant false rumors.

Mine is running at 4.6GHz.

I'd go for this board for $100. It has the ALC-1150 (good audio).

Make sure your DDR4 is binned high enough to handle the needed headroom for overclocking. A 3000MT/s kit will suffice.
