Hey guys I'm looking at a new build for the holiday savings, and basically a b150 and h110 are like half the price of a z170. Would I be missing out on any of the over clock features? (I've seen things like the z170a having 3400 ram OC) but nothing similar on the others, or maybe I'm over looking things. Budget or efficiency?

Solution
only the Z170 chipset has the ability to overclock, SLI however it does have support faster DDR4 ram. every other chipset only support DDr4 ram at 2133. also any chipset lower then the x170 has no PCI-E storage option for highspeed SSD drives.

here is a chart that compares all the skylake series chipsets:

Solution

If anything, it would be Microsoft trying to. However, no. They still advertise it on their product pages for most models.

Example: ASROCK B150M PRO 4

DDR4 Non-Z OC
Overclocking DDR4 memory modules is no longer limited to Z170 models. With ASRock’s DDR4 Non-Z OC users may overclock the memory of H170/Q170/B150/H110/C232 models using certain memory sticks, such as Kingston or Samsung memory DIMMs. The enhanced CAS latency brings up to 5% performance boost.

So in short, if I am looking to OC a trifecta of the ram / CPU / & GPU, a z170 outshines the others?
(I guess maybe that's why they cost more (duh))
All this help is much appreciated

pretty much, but if you are not going to OC and run multiple GPU's then save by going with a H170 mobo
