Z370 future support

I recently bought z370 with i5 i8400, but now I think I regret it. The reason is that I found out AMD will support the same socket for a long time and r5 1600 seems just good enough with twice the threads.
My question is, should I return my mobo and CPU while I can and get Ryzen instead? I would really love to have that upgradability. And as the title says will I be able to install future generation of Intel CPUs on z370 board? Sorry for bad english.

I wouldn't return it. Intel usually supports sockets for 2 generations and I doubt anything comes out on AM4 that's faster than the Ice Lake i7s. i5 8400 is significantly faster in everything but well-optimized multithreaded tasks than an r5 1600.

it more then just socket, chipset have to support the cpu too. just like z370 not supporting gen 6th or gen 7th with the same socket

Don't sweat it. By the time you need to upgrade that CPU, Both Intel and AMD have new platforms released with new sockets and chipset.
