Z370 Killer sli/ac and compatibility

Building a computer myself (which I've done a half dozen times so far, no stranger, can follow instructions) yet something new happened on this build... a supposedly "universal for LGA 1151" heatpipe Cooler Master simply doesn't fit my motherboard. Even comes with all kinds of adjustable parts, but the problem is that none of the lift screws (the ones that lift the cooling system above the capacitors that would otherwise get mushed) are big enough to actually screw into the motherboard. It seems designed with bigger holes for those cheap plastic clip-on heatsinks, and with stuff like a 4.0 quad-core and 1070ti going into it (that I will definitely be able to stress) I want to make sure everything is adequately cooled.

So the question is... like the RAM QVL that gives you a list of tested RAM guaranteed to work with the motherboard, is there a list for cooling? Some form factor I need to look for? I don't want to play "buy and see if it fits, return it, buy another and see if it fits, return it, etc".

Or is there anyone with a Killer who could give a definite brand and number or something? Any help is appreciated. I'm not overclocking anything and never will, so a 20-30 dollar heatsink should be enough, just need something guaranteed to fit and cool decently.

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Most complicated cooler I've ever used, but I figured out how it's supposed to go together... though like I mentioned, there doesn't seem to be any way to properly mount it on a Z370 Killer sli/ac. The four holes in the motherboard where a cooler is supposed to go are simply too big to fit anything that came with it and there aren't any alternative holes anywhere near the processor mount.

Previously, I always used said "cheap clip-on" solutions but figured I might need a bit more for the "just under top-tier" beast I'm attempting to throw together

Something seems amiss here. That cooler is certainly compatible with the board.

Are you mounting it with the correct orientation? Is there a backplate on that board?

If that's the case, the problem is definitely me and I overlooked something. I suppose I'm so used to things working one way that I misread the instructions, they look almost out of order in places. There IS a piece that's supposed to go over the processor, but it's way down at #10 instead of like... #2 where it should be. The plate that goes over the processor has screw holes in it that will probably work.

Thanks for your time though, proving the problem was *me* was the kick in the butt I needed to look at it a different way. Much appreciated
