Would a Z690 motherboard be better equipped to run 24/7 vs a B660 because of having better capacitors? Or would both be about the same? I will be running this in a surveillance system I have that has been running for 6 years straight, and want to upgrade.

I am just going by what I have read. Maybe not true? Thanks for the feedback.

Suppose you discover that Z690 board A has "better" components than B660 board B.

By whoever's definition.

How far out on a limb would you go to assume that board A would give you a better overall experience, including longevity, than board B?

I'd go about 2 inches. I'd bet $1.

Random factors and luck overwhelm you.

Thanks. I get what you are saying. I need to quit reading stuff and come on here and ask more questions. You are the best, buddy.

I have 3 drives right now, but would like to add at least one if possible shortly. Video takes up a lot of space.

You need to pay attention to what type of drives.

Ordinary 2.5 inch SSD and HDD shouldn't be an issue.

But if you now or in the future want M.2 drives...........motherboards vary as to how many M.2 ports are available.

Two M.2 ports is fairly common. Three is noticeably rarer.

But on a surveillance machine, I'd guess you have little use for M.2?

Are you looking at micro ATX boards as well as ATX? I would.

Chipset limits the number of SATA ports. Mass storage, for surveillance, is still going to be on HDD, and preferably those designed for such use.

Looking at what is available, Z690 is going to be your best option, for more than 4 sata ports. There are some B660 with more than 4, but they use a third party controller, for 2 of the slots.

What are your thoughts on a B560 or H570 board, with an i5-11500? A lot more choice for cheaper, and it has been out longer for stability.

Does your setup even require an i5? I would suspect an i3 12100 would be sufficient, for this.

No, i3 is not even in the playbook. i5 or greater is necessary for my stuff and how I run it. I use the AI Sense and it uses more resources.
Today's i3 will work with some on BI, but not for mine. Thanks.
