Question z690 or z790

I'm going to buy a new CPU (14700k) with a new motherboard
and i don't what i should buy:

z690 ASUS ROG Strix Z690-E Gaming WIFI
OR
GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS Elite AX?

and do i need z790?

2 hdd

Both boards support CPU-less BIOS flashing, so that should be fine.

They both look like pretty full featured boards.

The difference between the two chipsets is in the split of PCIe 3.0/4.0 lanes and Z790 can have 1 more 20gbps USB port. These differences rarely translate to anything on actual motherboards. Some Z790 boards have memory traces done in a superior fashion than Z690, but the same can be said of the new refresh Z790 boards and Z790 (this really only matters if you're trying to overclock your DRAM over 7000). The new refresh Z790 boards have wifi 7 which is probably the biggest difference otherwise.

i dont really care about ram speed or wifi
i just want the best performance and both of them has the same price

Do you see yourself using all the slots, ports and features? Would a cheaper board meet your needs just as well?
