Hey all, I've been considering swapping my Zalman 7000B-CU for a Coolermaster Hyper48 since it hammers most aircoolers on reviews i've seen, but would it be worth the change?

I've also thought about TT Bigwater with an additional NB waterblock, though I know i'll be smacked down just for mentioning it here. any thoughts on that too?

I knew you were going to say that =)

The xp-120 just isn't my thing, but thanx anyway

well, if i was to go for a thermalright, i'd go for max.. no need to cut back to midrange 😉

i might consider it, i'm pretty sure it'll fit on my board though. i just want to keep it quiet and good-looking

mopey, are you happy with your Asus? What brand DDR are you using? I've always gone with Asus and have been happy with everything. I'm building an Athlon X2 system and going with the Zalman 7000CU and just looking for a modest FSB of at least 250. Oh, and the board I'm looking at now is the A8N-E because the SLI thang ain't my...well...thang. thoughts?

Hey Krazynutz,

I am pretty happy with my Asus board, though i'd advice you to go with a passive northbridge cooler setup. The fan i used to have on there made a hell of a lot of noise, i just slapped a Sempron stock 60mm fsn on it and it's as quiet as the night, though it still gets pretty hot. I'd recommend any Abit/Asus board really, as long as it is heatpiped/passively cooled 😉

Asus is known to overvolt
Abit is known to undervolt

just keep that in mind when you are going for your 250-300htt

I am using Adata Viesta DDR500, and they are doing quite well (7gb/s sandra2k5 on an 8gb bandwidth)

but AMD64 is said to do better with Samsung TCCD chips, ask Wusy.. he's the Ram-Man 😉

i know you are not a fan of sli, but check out ABIT KN8 SLI anyways, it seems pretty solid to me and is not as prizy as the Asus Premium

what about the g.skill PC4400 (gold)? $170 and I believe it's Samsung TCCD. The Extreme (silver) definitely is but it's $40 more.

what do you think of those?

What case do you have? Is a side case fan blowing on the CPU crucial to OC-ing?

The ones you mentioned seems pretty good, some guy got them to 290fsb on cas2.5 it reads. Most G.skill we have here is Extreme http://www.edbpriser.dk/Listproducts.asp?ID=37&Parent=&Producent=5646&Rating=0&Max=&Soegeord=&Direction925=2&Sorted925=&Direction30614=2&Sorted30614=&Equal31279=&Equal1372=&True28959=&Trueval28959=118452&Submit.x=35&Submit.y=7

I have a cheap AOpen QF 50C, black, sidewindow.
If you don't have adequate airflow in your case (at least one "inhaust", one exhaust) a sidefan with fanduct can do wonders, but an A64 is generally running pretty cool.

Alright. So would you go with the g.skills at PC3200? They're all TCCD's I think. Aren't Corsair XMS's TCCD? I thought they were. Hey Wusy, what's your opinion on an A64 X2 needing the side case fan for OC-ing? I've never read anything on it except "they're nice to have". So I truly don't hijack this thread, I'll have the Zalman 7000 CU on the X2 3800

Actaully, I'll be getting the XFX 7800GT. I'm looking forward to the dual-dvi outs. Do you guys think I'll be fine with g.skill 3200 then? What about that side fan question. Do the A64 X2's need one?
