Z87-Pro Bluetooth question

Apologies for the relatively simple question, but I've scoured google for a while and not found the answer.

This motherboard ships with an antenna of sorts, is this purely for wi-fi, or is this needed for bluetooth too?

In other words, does the bluetooth work without the wireless antenna that comes with the motherboard?

The antenna is necessary as it extends the overall range of the wireless adapter and in essence the Bluetooth signal/reception. Point to note, you're going to find two wires in a laptop which are black and white respectively. They loop from the wireless adapter all the way to the top of the LCD bezel and help with reception for both the wifi and Bluetooth.

You should use the antenna. If you think the antenna's are an eyesore, you can swap them out for a more lower profile approach or did you misplace the antenna's?

i would check the motherboard specs more closely to see if the motherboard comes with a wifi only card or a combo wifi/BT card. usually manufacturers just bundle a combo card for these features

Thanks for the reply - I'm not sure I understand your answer, you say it's necessary as it extends the range, but I only want it for bluetooth headphones, so I'll be right next to the tower anyway, can it work without the antenna? It's also a desktop machine if that makes any difference.

Unfortuanately whilst I was at university my adapter got broken to pieces so I don't have one anymore!

it seems your screengrab is missing information.. there is no where in the screengrab that mentions what that asterisk means by the HS under the number 2 pannel connections. it would be best if you could give us the make and model of motherboard

from looking at the package contents page and the back panel connectors the wifi and Bluetooth are integrated on this motherboard so you would connect the antenna to the number 2 connectors as stated in this manual that antenna is used for both wifi and bluetooth

Thanks, isn't it just a signal booster though? Shouldn't the bluetooth work at close range without it? I'm basically trying to get bluetooth to work on linux and I'm unsure if it's a linux// driver issue or hardware issue.
