So I got a really, really good deal on a 4790k, obviously i couldn't pass it up. I currently have a 4670k, and I really don't want to re install windows and all of my things. If I stick with an asus MOBO (currently using a z87 plus) would i have the least amount of problems with not re installing windows and drivers? The only thing I'm really concerned about when doing the whole swap is losing all of my games and saves since i have 1tb of games and I don't want to have to lose that since I wont be able to download and reinstall all of them without my ISP trying to kill me and my wallet. If there is a better and easier way to go about this suggestions would be great. Thanks!

If you are not changing the Motherboard, you won't need to install windows again. Also if you are planning to keep the board, first do a BIOS update while you have the OLD CPU in place to maximize the probability that your new processor may recognized by the board.

well i need to change the motherboard, the 4790k isnt compatible with the z87 chipset, thats why i need to move to a z97 board. hence the title "z87 to z97"
