Z87 with Haswell compatibility issue?

Solution
If you are out of luck with BIOS, then no it's not that simple of a fix. It requires a CPU which the MoBo can recognize.

i5 4670k and i5 4690k are almost identical in real-world performance, the newer one *may* OC a bit better, but that depends a lot on chip lottery. If you can get 4670k for same price, go for it, it'll eliminate any potential risks of BIOS update and will perform as well as the 4690k.
If the MoBo you bought was manufactured after April '14, it'll come updated to support 4690k. Considering you purchased it sometime earlier, and the shop (or E-shop) didn't hand you like the most ancient piece available, your MoBo will support it. If in the unforunate case it isn't updated, for whatever reason, you'd then need to put a CPU which it supports w/o update and apply an update, or simply RMA it for an updated board.

I like your build, drop that cx corsair though.

Get a xfx. non cx corsair, seasonic, or evga psu.

In order to use a haswell refresh you need bios 7845v1A.

More than likely you will need to update the bios yes.

hmm well i got it off ebay so im not sure how new it is.
is it worth just getting an i5-4670k or is this a simple fix worth doing and if i did get an 4670k how much of a performance decrease would i have?
