z87m-plus will not boot with 16 gigs of ram but will with 8

I have a z87m-plus motherboard that will boot with 8 gigs of ram in the first two memory slots closest to the cpu but will not work with 4 dimms total of 16gb. I talked with Gskill support and all the memory sticks tested fine. The worked in the first two slots. So it seems the motherboard bad. I was just wonderin if there are any settings in the bios that would make it work just in case the motherboard isn't bad?

Did you test each stick individually in the first slot with memtest for at least one FULL pass? http://www.memtest.org/

...the "first two memory slots closest to the cpu" are not the correct slots to use for dual channel. They have to be in matching colors for dual channel.

Do you have the latest BIOS version?
Do you have the 'XMP' profiles enabled in the BIOS?
Did you try the 'Mem OK' button functionality? That would lower the memory clock speeds in an attempt to get all of the memory to work together. But that would defeat the purpose of having bought the matched set of overclocked memory.

If the board really is bad then you will need to talk to ASUS or your retailer about returning it.

I worked with gskill support and we tested all four sticks in the first two slots nearest the cpu. The system wouldn't boot with sticks in the matching color slots. Which is weird since every computer I have built goes by that standard.
Gskill walked me through enabling xmp in the bios and it recognized one profile.
I just updated the bios to see if that makes a difference.
I tried the mem ok button several times and it didn't work. I cleared the cmos with the jumper and by removing the battery.
I tested each stick individually by putting them in the slot nearest the motherboard.

After updating the bios I put the other two sticks in and the system powers on the red light on mem ok comes on and then it recycles off then on off then on.
As in the system powers off then comes back on and then off then on. That was with xmp enabled.

It appears that the MB is defective in some manner. If it was me, I would RMA it for replacement. If this is your MB: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87MPLUS/#overview ...the manual clearly states (pg 1-9) that the pairs go in like colored slots for dual channel memory.

I had same issue with same mobo but 4 dimms total of 32gb.
Obviously all my ram were OK.
I tired everything (changing bios setting, updating bios). But I could never get the bios working with 4 *8gb ram !!
Well what I finally did is remove the cpu fan. Open remove the cpu. And I find a very small dust stuck in the socket. I just give a big blow in the socket. Then put back the cpu. Then close the cpu. Put the cpu fan back.
And surprise I can now use my computer with 4*8gb ram !
