So i have a z97 - e motherboard with a gtx 1080 ti and a Xonar DGX sound card. I kinda of confused with the storage situation and all the names there are. I want to upgrade to an SSD M.2 2280 Samsung 960 Evo 500GB TLC V-NAND NVMe and i want to know if i will take full advantage of that ssd or if my mobo doesn't support it .
I looked up the asus mobo page but i find it very confusing .

It only has a 10Gb/s M2 slot. A full speed M2 slot is 32Gb/s. Also I see no mention of NVMe support. So you can use a 960 Evo but only at half speed and not as a boot drive. It would be limited to storage. Not worth it.

It supports NVMe and its bootable. You will need to make sure your BIOS is updated to at least version 0702 but I recommend making sure its fully up to date. However anort3 is correct it is only 10GB/s so there is a lot of wasted potential there.
