When I add my new Intel 670P to motherboard and boot it tries to boot from the NVME instead of from my Hard drive.

Under Boot Options it shows Intel SSDPEKNU01012
Nothing else. No hard drive and no dvd drive.

When I pull the NVME off from the motherboard
it boots the normal way with Boot Options Hard drive and Dvd drive.

I want to boot off hard drive and also have the NVME available so I can clone the hard drive onto the nvme.
After I do that I want to pull the hard drive off and boot from the NVME from then on.

I have 2.60 revision.

Solution
SATA controller set to AHCI
Don't have motherboard manual but will try to find one.
Will try to find setting that disables ports when using NVME.

Found setting labeled
M2_1/Sata 3_4, Sata 3_5 Switch Auto
Force Sata
Force M.2

Will try that also

what that means is you can either use an nvme drive OR sata ports 4 & 5. check to see where your sata hdd is plugged in. most likely it is in one of those 2 ports. so it is disabled when nvme is installed, thus it does not see the hdd and can't boot.

plug the hdd into a different sata port other than 4 or 5 and...

If I boot with NVME in mobo it Under Boot Options it shows Intel SSDPEKNU01012
Nothing else. No hard drive and no dvd drive showing.

Mind you the Hard drive and Dvd are still attached.

When I pull the NVME off from the motherboard
it boots the normal way with Boot Options Hard drive and Dvd drive

Just looked at pics I had when I have SSD inserted.

Boot Option Priorities
Boot Option #1 INTELSSD
HARD Drive Priorities
Boot Option #1 INTELSSD

Does not show Hard drive anywhere. Consequently can't boot into Windows.

Your motherboard most likely has a thing where when you populate NVME and use PCIe along with other PCIe devices being used in specific PCIe slots as well, it disables certain SATA ports on the motherboard and your HDD is connected to one of those ports.
I recommend looking into your motherboard manual and seeing if this is the case, and if so, move your SATA drives to ports that aren't disabled by having NVME installed.

Wow. Thanks. Will try plugging to diff port little later. And should the Switch setting be Auto or Force Sata or Force M.2?

Yes. That worked. Thank You much.
I unplugged DVD and changed port for HDD.
Set switch to Force M.2

I was then able to boot into Windows and clone HDD onto NVME.
Made NVME a GPT device.

Will try to boot from NVME later.
That will probably have its own challenges.

Cloned drive has to be in same partitioning scheme as clone source (MBR->MBR or GPT->GPT).
Or else result will not be bootable.

And first boot from cloned drive has to be with old drive physically disconnected.
Or else you'll have to redo cloning.

I did 1st boot fr NVME and old HDD physically disconnected and it booted just fine and navigating appears fine.
Cloned drive (SSD) is GPT and old HDD is MBR. ? ? ?
I did not change any boot options.

There is 3 Boot Options and all 3 display the same thing.
Windows Boot Manager
UEFI OS
INTEL SSDPEKNU010TZ
Disabled

If I re-connect old HDD what/how do I change to make it boot from NVME?

If you delete partition D : , then old drive becomes unbootable.

Am not going to delete anything from old HDD.
I already deleted one of the duplicate partitions on the SSD. There were (2) 549mb partitions. I already deleted one of them.
See the previous image that shows (2) 549mb partitions. Now one of them is gone.

Right now system seems to be fine. I boot off the SSD and old HDD is available for backup. (i think)
