I am doing a virtual new build using an existing case - brand unknown. I have installed the motherboard and all the other bits, including a new 750W power supply.

When I turn it on, the Standby Power Led comes on, but it does not boot.

I have tried using the old power supply but the same things happen.

Is it possibly something to do with the case cable going to the system panel connectors?

The case has a Power SW two pronged plug which has been installed on the corresponding pins on the motherboard. The SW Reset cable has been plugged into the corresponding pins on the motherboard. (Both the white cables to the left and going onto the power pin. The red and blue both go to the ground pin.

There is a third cable coming from the area near the on switch (but I can't get to it.) It seems to be a power cable and has a big 4 pin plug with both male and female connectors. There are only two wires to this cable/plug.

I connected this to a periphal power cable from the power supply. Is that correct, or does it need to somehow plug into the motherboard?

Nothing is going to the motherboard power led or the HDD Led.

Any suggestions please.

Solution
sounds like the motherboard standoffs were not installed, or not installed properly. as suggested, try taking it out of the case and booting it.

do not try to boot the system outside the case if it is on anything that can conduct electricity, especially carpet. the motherboard box usually makes for a good temporary test bench.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried taking the board out of the case but still no go. I also checked and reseated the i7 chip and fan just to make sure it was in correctly.

Whats next? (I do have a multimeter.)
