Z97 vs B85

My friend has bought a B85m motherboard and I bought a Z97 motherboard and he is telling me that I have wasted my money. Is there a difference between z97 and b85 makes it better and more expensive?

If you have a CPU you want to overclock \ a K version , You get a Z board , if not , no need really for it.

If you can't overclock your processor then Z97 is indeed not necessary.

However, depending on the Z97 model, they are higher quality motherboards and usually have more features like better audio and SLI compability. It doesn't really have to be wasted money even if you can't overclock the proccesor.

Ok thanks guys, because he has an i5 4690k and I have an i7 4790k. He has a K processor and not a z motherboard

HE is the one that wasted money an i5-4690k then! Unless It's an Asus B85M motherboard he can still probably OC but It's not ideal.
