So my current build is

I7-4770
1060 6gb
16gb DDR3
2AF3 Mobo old (OEM)

Looking to get a new mobo.
So as the cpu is an 1150 socket, it seems like the best/newest chipset I can get for it is the Z97, I realise that this is an old chipset, but is it worth buying/will it hold up for a few years ? Or should I look to get a new cpu and a new mobo ?
My cpu seems pretty decent so would prefer not to have to replace it.

Also any recommendations on mobos would be appreciated.

Cheers.

No compatibility issues in the future as long as everything is working fine now. A SSD would be a good investment now as it speeds up the general use of the system but if you can, go for a good 240gb SSD such as the budget Sandisk Plus or more preferably would be the Crucial MX300 275gb SSD.
Not really, your CPU is locked so even if you found a Z97 motherboard the overclocking feature is kind of pointless. As is the build you have is pretty solid and should handle gaming quite well in the 1080P/1440P range.

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket and if the games you play support 21:9 I'd highly recommend looking into a 29" 2560x1080P/IPS monitor. I just bought one myself and absolutely love it.

Couple reasons;

1. Worried about some compatibility issues / I think newer mobos have more options and support newer tech
2. Watched someone put this mobo in a new case (which i intent to do) and they needed to drill new holes to make it fit (think it's because it's OEM)
3. Looks, https://support.hp.com/doc-images/270/c03784161.jpg
4. [strike]overclocking[/strike]

Right okay, didn't actually know it was locked, cheers

Any compatibility issues I might run into in the foreseeable future ?

And I think i'll end up getting an ssd after i get a new case, if i have the money left over

How about a samsung 850 evo 250gb, about the same price as the crucial but according to http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Samsung-850-Evo-250GB-vs-Crucial-MX300-275GB/2977vs3642 however seems a lot older.
