Hello folks,

I have a setup with a Z97X-UD5H motherboard and i7-4790K which comes with the HD4600 iGPU running Linux Mint. I also have a GTX 970 in the machine, which has 2 monitors connected to it. I am trying to virtualize Windows and VGA passthrough the GTX 970 to this VM. For this I will hook the two monitors to the iGPU with HDMI and DVI-D and one monitor will get the output from the GTX 970 through DP. But for some reason I don't get signal from the onboard HDMI port anymore. Linux does recognize a monitor on this port and the handshake seem to be done well but the monitor says "no output". I've tried rulling out the cable and the monitor itself but it just doesn't seem to work. The one thing I haven't tried is to remove my GTX 970 from the system.

What I've done thus far:

  • Switch cables and monitor
  • Change GPU option in BIOS to start from the iGPU
  • Blacklisted NVIDIA/nouveau modules
  • Tried to run dualsetup from iGPU only in Windows

Solution
Multi-monitor used to be offered, but is no longer featured on most motherboards. I suggest duplicating display with a video card and its outputs.
