zen vs skylake or kabylake

Solution

nice speculation there but no one knows. no one WILL know until next month as well. reading briefly around the web its the general consensus that Zen will bring 40% better IPC performance which seems to put it in line with ivy bridge or maybe haswell CPUs. unfortunately, it's seeming doubtful that AMD will match intel's newest CPUs clock for clock, and if they did i doubt that would make it a value proposition, instead probably pricing it *slightly* lower than the competition from intel.

dunno if you guys are new to this stuff but you HAVE to...

dunno if you guys are new to this stuff but you HAVE to wait and see what the reviewers and the public say about it (when it's released). you can't sit around guessing and hoping. you just have to wait and see if it's going to be good or not.

at this point in the year, i would definitely agree this is good advice. if you're dying to get a new system, go for it. otherwise it could get very interesting next month, hopefully

I'm certainly hoping AMD brings something worthwhile with Zen. I'd like to replace an Athlon 5350 based system and a Celeron J1800 based system....but Zen based APUs have to show a reasonable level of performance. Something that AMD has struggled with over the last decade.

I recommend waiting until next month or year until they release the Intel side of things as well. ZEN probably won't even compare to Intel based on past things. I'd still wait though, you never know.

their APUs actually perform quite nicely especially for the price. for people with a need for a decent CPU/GPU combo, they're not so bad. AMD's CPUs on the other hand are aging quite poorly. i know that they use basically the same cores as the APUs and blah blah blah but i sincerely hope they focus on CPU power before trying to implement an advanced iGPU into the picture.
