So in the next week or so I will be purchasing components for a new PC. 3700X CPU, with a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite MB. I do not plan on overclocking the CPU, but perhaps the RAM (if needed). GPU is a EVGA 1070 ti (Overclocked).

Use is Lightroom and some gaming on a 1440p 60Hz screen.

In looking over the web there isn't a lot of information as to what RAM will be a good, cost effective fit. Given my components and intended use, are there any that you guys can recommend?

Thanks... : )

DDR4, 2 sticks, 16 or 32GB total at 3200-3600

Yeah, thanks. I did see this; was hoping that folks on the forum could perhaps narrow it down a bit.

Well RAM is RAM. At one stage (1st gen Ryzen) you really had to look for a specific die for good perform once but that isn't the case anymore. Basically go for one which you like the look of. I'm partial to Corsair RGB but that's cos I like the look.

Thanks for the replies; I do not need RGB, but I am looking for a nice balance between cost and performance, especially given 32GB, which can be quite pricey.

Specifically, will I really notice a difference in performance if I use 3600/19 vs 3600/16?

For example:

Depends on the program but if it's not much more you can always go with the lowest timings one you can find

Again, thanks for the suggestions. Can I assume that latency is more of a factor than speed? That is, 3200/16 > 3600/18, for example. If so I am a bit more confused, as from what I have read it seemed that speed was more important than latency....please straighten me out.

Frequency is generally a greater factor if the CPU can support it. Lower timing becomes more important once that threshold is reached. Also, the lower timings kits are generally better chips and can perform better, so it is preferred by enthusiasts, over clockers, and those that would like the absolute best.

As far as not liking the Neo, it would be for aesthetic reasons.

Ah, thanks for the explanation.

I am not at this point planning on overclocking (as I understand there is not much headroom on the CPU - not sure about RAM); I do not consider myself an 'enthusiast.' However, I do want the highest performing system given the components specified; I care more about system performance than aesthetics. My plan as noted in the original post is to use it for photo editing (LR), some gaming and general use.

Given these conditions, which of your 32GB products coupled with the 3700X and Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite would you recommend?
