Hello,

Yesterday I installed an ASUS ZenWIFI XT8 duo as an access point .

While I obtained during a few hours a flow of almost 500 Mbps, the current flow is only 30 to 60 Mbps. I did a factory reset and rebuilt the installation. I had a flow of 500 Mbps for a few minutes and I have again less than 50 Mbps now.
Do you have any idea what the problem is?

Does it only do this on wifi. What happens if you plug into the remote AP with a cable. I assume you have the AP hard wired to the router so this should give you a ethernet path all the way to the router.

If it is wifi I would suspect the "smart" mesh roaming crap is moving you to the 2.4g radio. The speeds you get are about what you would expect. You get about 500=600 mbps on 802.11ax on 5g and generally well under 100mbps on the 2.4g.

I don't know if it has the feature but maybe you can set the ssid different for the 2.4 and 5 radios and if it has a option to disable the roaming stuff, roaming just does not work well even when newer devices have partial support for it. Brute force method is to turn off the 2.4g radio to...

My guess is some type of QOS is enabled by default. As routers get "smarter" they try to "help". It is not always what you want. The router sees your data flow as hogging bandwidth and lowers it. There may be a setting to tell it what your WAN bandwidth is that isn't set correctly or something like that.
