I need answers for 2 questions please. Firstly i have zone alarm. When minimised its logo appears in the task bar, but now when minimised it still appears in the task bar, but the zone alarm icon appearing on the taskbar now has a small blue icon that resembles something like a key. What does this mean???

Secondly i have installed an old 100mb zip drive on my system. I installed the information on the floppy allowing me to detect and access the zip drive, but as i didnt install the extra utilities that u get on the zip disk once it is detected, everytime i login to win2k it tries to continue set for the zip drive utilities disk. How can i get around this apart from installing the utilities disk.

Thanks for any help.

A small blue thing ? If I recall correct, the earlier versions of ZA used that to tell you there is an Alert, in the "Alert" box. It has been changed in the newest version though, to another icon, but I'm pretty sure that's what it is..

Heh.

1) That 'key' is a sign that a program tried to access the internet and got shot down, or someone tried to access your computer and got shot down over enemy territory.

2) Crash and reinstall. This *is* msft windows, you know....

I hacked Msft, and all I got was this lousy source code.....

So if i see this key, although someone tried to hack me, my pc is still safe. The majority of the times it is always there, so i was thinking that its an alarm to say that someone has managed to access my pc. Do u know of anyone that has actually hacked past a zone alarm firewall??

What is the best personal firewall that i can get for free.

Thanks for the help

It does not have to be a hacker, it could also just be a server scanning for files, in a legit way if you were using some sort of file sharing program. But generally it is some program trying to access your computer, and Zone Alarm cares not if it is of legit reasons or not, that program is NOT going to prowl through your files. ZA is the best personal firewall out there. IF you want more proof, try www.grc.com - Internet security site, has a lot of nifty programs to test your firewall and security. - BTW, I get several "alerts" a day, either from using programs with filesharing capabilities, or just Gamespy / The All-Seeing Eye, for browsing gameservers.

Dude, open up ZA and check the log. It will tell you exactly who did what and when. It lists their IP, which port they attempted to access, etc. Also, if you are on a network with other PC's at all, they will occasionally poll each other on port 139 (windows file sharing port) and ZA will catch and reject that as well, setting off false alarms.
