zoo tycoon 1 not running on windows 8.1

I have zoo tycoon which is not running on my pc (running windows 8.1 x64),when i try to open the game nothing happens ,on the other hand i installed the game on old core 2 duo system running windows 7 32 bit ,it ran just fine,what am i missing here?how can i make it run on my system?

Tried it,no luck ,the game wont even start.......

Could be a 32-bit/64-bit thing. Probably needs 32-bit OS judging by your opening post.

In which case you're screwed on 64-bit.

Moreover, version 1 dates way back to 2001, Windows has changed considerably under the hood since then.
There's loads of 16-year old software won't even run on Windows 7, let alone Windows 8.

i tried many tricks but the game didnt work.i finally installed windows xp on virtual box and it worked
