So I've tried a lot to set up a open port for my Minecraft server but it refuses to work. I can connect on the server but my friends can't. Could I get a step by step tutorial on how to do it properly. All the methods i saw online were outdated or didn't work. Thanks.

Minecraft's website:

However, what specific problems are you experiencing: error messages, pop-up windows, unaccepted configuration settings? Port-forwarding issues?

Who has full admin rights to your network router? You will need help from that person in order to open the necessary ports on the host computer.

It shows that I've added a port forward thing on the router's menu but when my friends try joining it doesn't work.

What error messages do they get?

Did you assign a static IP address to your computer on the router? A static IP address that is outside of the router's allowed DHCP IP address range.

And did you reserve that static IP address on the router for your computer by using the computer's MAC?
