ZTE MF253 Wireless LTE Modem Issues

I now live in Australia. I have a modem from South Africa. It is a ZTE Wireles LTE modem (Model MF253). I have been told that this modem should work in Australia. I have bought a simcard and loaded data onto it. The modem starts and from all indications it receives a signal. My macbook also indicates that an internet connection seem to be available and so does my iphone. However, this is where the problem starts. When trying to get onto the internet on both my iphone or my mac, a message: "Safari cannot find the server" appears. (Yes, even though the signal bars indicate there is a signal from the modem.) Not sure whether it is a setting somewhere. Please bear in mind that both macbook and iphone connects to other wifi connections without a problem. I read on some forum about vp/vc changes to 8/35 that may be required, but I dont have a clue what they a referring to? Do you have any idea how to solve my problem?

Does the ZTE modem have a simlock? Did you buy it seperately or did you get it with an internet contract?

Which provider are you using? (Which net?) like vodaphone,..
