throughout 2019-2022 i slowly upgraded my pc in 2019 i bought a new GPU, in 2020 i bought a new PSU of 650 watts. i used up my gpu alot and its starting to show black cubes every now and then (probably dying) ive wished to upgrade to a new gpu soon anyway but i really really dont want to buy a new PSU (lots of work and this one still works)

i was thinking of buying a 7800XT but i dont know if the peak wattage would crash my system

my rig (without gpu): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FvVJdH

with a 7800XT it would be at 537W (total rig) but i see some OC versions hit a higher peak of 292W (556W total rig)

556W would still be under 650W and im not a hardcore OCer. just need confirmation

otherwise ill buy a 4070Super (less vram rip)

Your PSU won't deliver the same amount of power it did while brand new after 4 years, you could drop in the 7800XT;

though what did the PSU power throughout it's tenure since the GPU isn't mentioned in the PCPartPicker URL nor your thread's body.

otherwise ill buy a 4070Super (less vram rip)
That is another route.

FYI, morality of the story is that you protect your investments, the PSU is considered to be the heart of the system, if it conks out, everyone else conks out(kinda).

the gpu that is dying is a 1660Super but it has been working overtime ever since (1440p gaming) ~85c temps for hours

my real question is, if the systems peaks in wattage for some reason will the whole shebang engulf in flames or will some breaker mumbo jumbo kick in the PSU itself?
