So, at some point in the future, my AM4 will be replaced, and this got me thinking, is it not time we removed the audio sockets from motherboards and cases.
They have served their purpose from the infancy of audio on PC's but surely, we should now move on to something better, now this may be USB in whatever form for lowest cost, coaxial is cheap but clear quality, fork of HDMI standard for audio and even ADAT optical?

Why? Audio solutions in motherboards are overwhelmingly popular, to the extent that their improvement has made sound cards far less prominent as an upgrade feature than they were 20 or 30 years ago. The standards are widespread and basically universal. What problem are you trying to solve?
