WD Black Hard Drive Noise

Hello;

I have a western digital caviar black 2TB HDD and it makes a really annoying noise when it is working under load...

Is this normal? Are blacks known to have this noise naturally?

Yes its normal, WD blacks a noisy but fast.

I cannot listen at work, but I can confirm that many of the WD Black drives are much more audible than competitors' drives. I do not believe this represents a problem with the drive, and is a price to pay for the drive's speed. Remember that these drives have a five year warranty (other consumer drives are 2-3 years), so WD is obviously not concerned about it either.
I buy mostly WD Black mechanical drives myself. Some are noisier than others, but I don't recall one ever failing (I did get one DOA, promptly replaced).

Hi,

You can download hard disk sentinel trial or crystaldisk to check the drive health. The wd black are the best drive around. I have about 10 of them in system and some of them are 8 years old (500 gb) and are still running fine.

As WD Black is performance oriented, it may be a little bit louder than the other WD drives.
You can test it with WD's DLG tool and check out its health status. Trying the tools what dextermat already suggested will be fine as well.

I ran the test, this is the result:

Test Result: PASS

The results show that your HDD should be fine.
One thing you can do is to make sure the HDD is tightly fastened. Also, some users use different kinds of ant-acoustic/vibration screws/rubber grommets, isolation strips, etc.
