My motherboard doesnt have built in WiFi so I had a wifi dongle for the longest time, but when my connection started to get slower I switched to a pci wifi card, however my wifi was still very slow (30mbps) however my phone and any other computer in my household has anywhere from 300-900mbps. I connected a ethernet cable and somehow my speeds are worse (5mbps) I even bought a pci ethernet card thinking it was my motherboard but still my speeds are the same.

Ive tried reseting my network
flushing my dns via CMD
updating drivers and windows
switching dns servers
and a bunch of other little fixes but no change what so ever

At this point im thinking its windows itself? But I really dont want to reinstall windows if im not for sure that its the problem

So here I am, asking anyone who reads this for their input

I am open to any ideas

Thanks!

Make and model modem, router, or modem/router if combined?

Double check that only one network adapter is enabled - either wired or wireless. Not two network adapters at the same time.

Disable IPv6

Failing that, run "ipconfig /all" without quotes via the Command Prompt.

Post the results herein.

You should be able to copy and paste the results with no need to retype it all.

Disabling IPv6 did not work

It is likely some software you have installed or some setting. Look for any software that claims to favor some types of traffic. This many times come loaded with the bloatware with video cards and motherboards. A common name is cfosspeed. Uninstall any software like this you have.

Since you have multiple machines try a simple file copy between machines. You should be able to see the transfer rates the network tab of the resource monitor. You can also use a old line mode testing tool called IPERF. This is a very simple command that is not impacted by much other than the drivers.

If these type of things work I would suspect some browser problem.

You can also confirm it is windows by using a linux USB boot image. These run from a USB stick and most times have a browser installed so you can run standard speed test. Problem is it will just confirm that it is something inside windows.

I had similar strange issues when I was testing vpn clients and they did not fully uninstall. I ended up reinstalling windows and do not load vpn clients on my pc anymore.
