Finding the key data in Watch Dogs 2 is required if you are planning on learning some of the more advanced abilities your character can pick up. Even if you have the research available to learn them, if you haven't found the data yet you can't do it. You will be given a general idea of where the data is when you go to learn the ability itself though.
The Map.
The above map shows you where each of the 24 key data locations are. If you go to each of the highlighted spots shown on here you should be close enough to figure out where exactly each of these are.
How to collect them,
Some of the data is going to require you to be physically there in order to collect it, usually by picking up a briefcase. Others you can collect by hacking terminals, which can be done with your drone or RC car, so that you don't even need to be anywhere near them yourself.
Researching with key data.
Now that you have the key data you need, you can go ahead and unlock the ability that goes along with that piece of data to give yourself a nice new ability.
Find them all, and earn enough research, and you can go ahead and learn all of the abilities available in the game so that you are ready for any situation you might find yourself in!
