Hi guys,
So the R9 290 runs hot, that's for sure, I have the msi twin frozr 290 and temps to be fair are pretty good, maxing out at about 85 degrees under full load, whilst this is better than the AMD 95 degrees target I wanted to lower the temps.
I found that the card can be undervolted and have it's power limit reduced and not throttle at all.
Here is my power and Voltage reduction in afterburner, the temps are after running a benchmark of unigine valley, it's set to -19 on voltage and -20 on power limit.
The temps before the change maxed out at 84 degrees where as after the changes 75.
Now, each card will be different but if you plan on keeping the stock clocks, it's worth experimenting to keep your temps lower, all in all a pretty nice reduction in temps.
