In the new Deus Ex game, there are now a total of 35 different augmentations you can choose from as to which you will be upgrading and using most often. Not all of them are created equal though, and while some are practically essential for your survival, others are far from being essential, to the point they would be practically useless in actual play. So which do you spend your points on investing in? Let me break it down to show you which ones you are going to need for your playstyle.
Essential augments for any playstyle.
These are the augments you are going to want to invest in no matter how you decide to play the game, they will get you the most of out it by allow you to get everywhere you can and collect everything to really advance the quickest. You'll want to the cybernetic leg and arm prosthesis so that you can jump to ledges that would otherwise be out of reach, and so that you can punch through walls and move heavier objects. To go with the leg prosthesis you will probably want to pick up Icarus landing, so that you can fall from high up without dying. Upgrading your smart vision is a must, as you can use this to see through walls and pick up enemies or structural weakness, and the more you upgrade it, the less power it uses. Icarus dash can be a must to also dash towards ledges your jumping wouldn't be able to reach normally as well, so you could technically get this instead, but it uses energy while the leg prosthesis doesn't, so it's best to have both so you only use power when you need to. You will also want to invest in upgrading your hacking capture augment, so that you can actually hack through those high level security panels reliably. It's also a good idea to unlock smart vision as soon as possible, you'll use it a lot to see through walls to reveal items or enemies you might otherwise miss. Last, and far from least for essential augments, is going to be the Sarif series 8 energy converter. It doesn't seem like much on it's own, but the longer your batteries hold out, the more augments you can use.
Essential augments for a stealth playthrough.
If you are looking to stealth through your game, it is entirely possible to get through it without alerting a single guard if you make proper use of your augments. The first one you are going to want to be investing in is the glass shield cloaking augment, which will allow you to turn invisible for a few seconds at the cost of some energy. If you have upgraded your batteries this can last quite a while and turn otherwise difficult missions into a cake walk as you slip past large groups of enemies. On top of this, you'll also want to invest in the remote hacking augment, so that you can knock out security measures for 25 seconds at a time from a distance, since even while invisible you can set some of these off. The LiDAR Mark-Tracker, combined with upgrades to the Wayfinder Radar System can be a good combination as well, since you can then mark targets using the mark tracker, up to 40 targets when it is fully upgraded, and then with the upgraded radar you can not only see where they are on your HUD, so you are always aware of your surroundings and where your enemies are located.
Essential augments for a combat oriented playthrough.
If you aren't looking to sneak your way through the game and would rather every encounter to be a firefight, you'll be wanting to invest in augments that compliment that style of play. The first I would recommend would be the rhino dermal armor augment, once you unlock this it will always be active and not use energy, but will reduce any incoming damage you receive. On that same line of thinking you can also invest in the titan augment that acts in the same way, but has to be activated and drains energy, but also protects much more effectively. On top of these augments to decrease the amount of damage you receive, you can add in the sentinel RX health system augment to increase your maximum health as well as how quickly it regens. Now that you are able to survive in a fire fight, you are going to need some ways of killing all those enemies. Why not invest in the Typhoon augment, wade into the middle of them, and activate this to blow everyone around you away. If you prefer sticking to your guns and cover though, go with the cybernetic weapon handling augment to reduce recoil and stabilize your sights, while also increasing your reload speed. On top of that, you can also get the focus enhancement, which will slow down time for everyone but you.
Hopefully these tips will help you in Deus Ex, they should at last help with avoiding spending all of your points on augments that aren't really going to be of much use at all.
