How to enable or disable the Action Center in Windows 10

Action Center is an excellent addition to Windows 10. It collects notifications and records messages like a mobile app and can keep you up to date with everything that’s going on with your computer and the apps installed upon it. I appreciate that Action Center isn’t universally popular though, so let’s look at how to enable or disable the Action Center in Windows 10.

You can use either the registry editor or group policy editor to enable or disable the Action Center. As not all versions of Windows 10 has the group policy editor, I’ll use Regedit.

Disable Action Center in Windows 10

1. Type or paste ‘regedit’ into the Search Windows box.
2. Navigate to ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer’.
3. Right click in the right pane and select Create new DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4. Name it ‘DisableNotificationCenter’ and set the value to 1.
5. Reboot your computer for the change to take effect.

Enable Action Center in Windows 10
Windows 10 Action Center should be enabled by default on new installs or upgrades. If you disabled it using the above tweak but decided you actually prefer having it there than not, you can quickly undo your change to restore it.

1. Type or paste ‘regedit’ into the Search Windows box.
2. Navigate to ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer’.
3. Navigate to ‘DisableNotificationCenter’ and set the value to 0.
4. Reboot your computer for the change to take effect.
