The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is a speedy little laptop running a mobile variant of the Intel i7 processor and an SSD. Despite these advantages, Windows 10 will eventually begin slowing down, restraining all that power contained within the hardware. If you find it happening to you, here’s how to speed up Windows 10 on the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1.

Here are a few simple ways to make Windows 10 faster. I tend to recommend CCleaner as a tool for housekeeping a Windows computer. It’s fast, effective and free. The perfect combination!

First up, let us clean out anything we no longer use. This will free up space and reduce the load on the processor at boot. Many programs like to add themselves to the startup list which is one reason why Windows starts slowing down.

Create a restore point before making any significant changes to your system. Then:

1. Perform a full Windows update.
2. Update all drivers on your system.
3. Download and install CCleaner.
4. Run the Cleaner from the left menu.
5. Navigate to Tools and Uninstall. Work your way through the list removing any program you no longer use.
6. Move to Startup underneath Uninstall. Remove anything that says Yes under Enabled that isn’t security, audio driver, video driver, mouse or keyboard driver.
7. Move to Registry in the left menu and select Scan for Issues. If the scan finds anything, select Fix selected issues in the bottom right. Backup changes to the registry if you want to.
8. Run a virus scan and a malware scan.
9. Disable any unnecessary Windows services. Refer to the BlackViper Windows 10 service guide for this.
10. Check Windows Event Viewer to see if any configuration errors are slowing your Dell down. Fix them if there are any critical errors.

Windows 10 is pretty good at looking after itself but there is always room for improvement. The older tips such as turning down visual effects no longer make much of a difference so aren’t worth trying, certainly not on a Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. Some other websites suggest defragmenting your hard drive. As the XPS uses an SSD and not a hard drive, don’t do this. TRIM takes care of everything for you.
