the price difference between the two boards are not that much, atleast not where i live, so if i was you i would go with the z97, since it has SATA express, and some other features that the other one does not have. :) i have the Maximus vii formula myself, and i could not be more happy with it :)

Most PSU comes with a 24 pin cable where 4 of the pins are detachable so it wil be a 20 pin and a 24 pin in one :) if it say 20/24 pin you should be fine. :)

Your CPU chould work for atleast a yet or so, but i would really recommend you to buy a new GPU, Nivida 760/770 will do great! or AMD r9 270 /r9 280x :)
