With your use case, you are better off with the 2600. If power is concern 2600. If not over clocking 2600. If youll get to more intense games, upgrade the GPU because 2600 will be fine in the future.

As a gamer, why would I buy a 9700K when an 8700K trades blows with the 9900K in both gaming and productivity. It just doesn't make sense. Its like its just competing with its own product as this point. I would be better off buying an 8700K deliding it, put liquid metal and overclock to 5.0Ghz...

I had the same configuration as you back before I upgraded my GPU. Only difference we had is the size of memory. 8gb is enough for gaming and some light tasks. As is, I do not see anything that holds back performance. Would suggest to overclock your CPU to 4.5Ghz. :)

You might want to try each PCIE slots as well as it can also be a factor of 1 being good but the other being busted.

For 1080p gaming, 780ti;s still can run most of the games but most likely not in a high settings. You are better off with 1 strong gpu than SLI as scaling is not really worth it right now. FPS gain is not high when gaming in SLI, plus the number of games that support SLI fully is not that plenty...
