News No More Lip Service: Twitch, Game Platforms Still Ignore Hate and Harassment

Well for starters I turned my adblocker back on for TH. I deliberately set exceptions for sites I want to support, and TH was one of those. There are already tools to deal with these sorts of problems, and there are MORE tools that could be implemented that don't involve increasingly radical...

News SK Hynix Scores A World First: Unleashes a Consumer SSD With 128-Layer NAND

Niels, IOPS: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81jH3WJyQSL.pdf On paper it looks faster than comparably-priced drives. Could turn out to be a great budget drive, may very well displace drives like the SN750 and the SX8200 Pro.

News SK Hynix Scores A World First: Unleashes a Consumer SSD With 128-Layer NAND

Intel is trying to compete, they're already implementing 4.0 as fast as they can. Their first attempt turned out to be flawed, and they had to disable it. The point I'm trying to make is that bringing attention to it won't actually speed things up, they literally can't implement it any quicker...

News AMD Submits Patent for big.LITTLE-esque Hybrid Computing Implementation

Intel's current implementation requires ISA parity though... which harms the performance of the larger cores.

News Huawei's MateBook D 14, D15 Are Reborned With AMD Ryzen 4000 APUs For Under $700

That's my issue, I don't want a board that is effectively stuck at that capacity unless you want to chop memory bandwidth in half. I do wish AMD's memory controllers were as flexible as Intel's in this regard.

News Huawei's MateBook D 14, D15 Are Reborned With AMD Ryzen 4000 APUs For Under $700

If 8GB of the RAM is soldered onto the mainboard, I wouldn't touch one. Price isn't bad considering the performance of those chips.

News H.266 VCC Video Codec Promises to Cut File Sizes in Half

Five 4K HEVC videos actually decoding on screen, without dropping frames like crazy? Are you sure the software you were using WASN'T using the GPU and/or onboard Quick Sync, to at least accelerate the most demanding parts? A lot of playback software uses a hybrid approach where it leverages the...

News Report: New, Cheaper 1440p Next-Gen Xbox in the Works

Ah, I should have been more clear. I was referring to games built from the ground up with the SSD in mind. For example, they develop a title which utilizes the SSD for streaming for both the Series X and Series S (scaled down for S as appropriate), and then also build versions for older Xbox...

News Report: New, Cheaper 1440p Next-Gen Xbox in the Works

I'm thinking mainly of 8 to 32 bit era consoles, in which case you might just take the raw RGB signal and bypass the video encoder chip. There are sometimes mods that do just that, resulting in an improved video output (to various degrees), but it's still analog and needs further processing...

News Sorry Windows 8 Users, Cyberpunk 2077 Requires DirectX 12

Yeah a lot of people went straight from 7 -> 10 via a new build / new system. But pretty much every Windows 8 gaming box upgraded to 10 long ago. This article is like "Sorry, those two guys that somehow are in this situation." Also as you said you can still upgrade. I actually had an 8.0 Pro...

News Report: New, Cheaper 1440p Next-Gen Xbox in the Works

I would bet many devs will offer options (like how some games let you favor fidelity vs framerate) and/or automatically tweak things depending on output resolution. If you're hooked up to a 1440p or 4K panel, increasingly-popular dynamic resolution may offer benefits vs a 1080p panel. I don't...
