    Question Win10 Support for FireWire?

For my ASUS Z97-C DAW build I need to use FireWire with Win10. I have done a lot of research but I can not find any definitive guidance on the current issues with FireWire. A few years back Win10 update broke FireWire and very expensive studio recording boards (i.e. Allen & Heath) that use...

    Question ASUS Z97-C Build Issue

Personal issues caused me to put this build on the back burnre but now I am back at it. I have made some progress but still have install issues. I have figured out why the Win7 SP1 install can't see the M.2 drive. It is as Titan mentioned: "Support for m.2 may not be present without...

    Question ASUS Z97-C Build Issue

It's in the first line of my original post "ASUS Z97-C motherboard" "Use one of the sata connected hard drives." I did. When I started, only the 160GB SATA hard drive was connected. I then switched to the the 2TB SATA drive only. Then both together. Same result - Windows 7 SP1 install...

I am having a lot of trouble getting Windows 7 to install on a new build based on the ASUS Z97-C motherboard. Reason for the Build: The computer will be my primary DAW in my recording studio. It will be a CLOSED (no internet) system. I have proprietary PCI audio & MIDI interface cards...

Question Can I swap out the C drive from another similar PC ?

I have 5 retail Win7 licenses that I paid for & still use.. I have had a number of boot hard drives die in the last year and I needed more space on a couple so I installed bigger drives (mostly for dual booting Linux Mint). All my boot drives are just that - boot OS only. 80GB to 160GB in...

Question Problems trying multiboot system with 5 partitions... xfdisk can't hide logical partitions, only primarypartitions

MBR only supports 4 primary partitions. Add a 2nd hard drive for your data. Now put W2K in the 4th partition. DOS & W311 can only see FAT16 partitions and the 1st primary patition. Make the 1st patition of your data drive FAT16, the rests can be FAT32. You will need the 2nd version of W95 to...

Question Issues with a Windows 95/98 game on Windows 2000 Pro ?

Windows 2000 (and NT 3.4 & 4.0 ) had plenty of 16 bit code in it, mostly for DOS support. There were 16bit and 32bit flavors of utilities. W2K was missing the W98 libraries which XP did a better job of supporting. Unless a game/app said it was W2K compatible, most likely it would not run...

Question Windows 10 New Build Lots of RAM Issues

I just finished the Win10 part of a build I have had on hold for 18 months. The mobo is an ASUS Prime Z790M-PLUS D4, CPU is i9-13900KF, 128GB RAM, and I have lots of storage. I am using an 250GB SSD to boot Win10 and Linux Mint 21.3 from, each getting 110GBs. The Windows partition was...

News Windows 10 Still More Popular Than Windows 11, Two Years Later

It is quite easy to bypass Windows 11 hardware requirements to load Win11 on older equipment. Google is your friend. Win10 is my last MS OS. When it is dropped by MS, Linux Mint will go on it. I can't stand using 10 so 11 will never go on my i7 7700 which is not compatable with Win11 unless...

Question Restored Win10 - Random Reboots - Video Card Issue

I checked the PS. It is working fine It is an Corsair CX 850 watt unit. The specs for the mobo/cpu/original video card was 650 watts; I always get a bigger PS than the 'recommended' size. I do not think that the issue was with the PS as it ran fine until the SSD then the Zotac video card had...

The SSD (M2 type) that had my Win 10 OS PC (Asus Prime Q270M-C i7 7700K Socket 1151 64GB RAM) on it died after 15 months. I replaced it & restored Win10. No issues but I started getting random Win10 reboots with no warning. Then I lost one of my monitors. I tried everything I could find but...

Question MS-DOS File Server - Lan Manager

Yes I know that they are different. I used OS/2 1.2 through Warp 4 and MS-DOS 2.0 through PC-DOS 7 Release 1. What I am trying to do is to set up a FILE server to host regular MS-DOS files (not a web server) so that an MS-DOS/PC-DOS client can access MS-DOS files.
